Tulips are one of my Favourite Flowers

My maternal grandparents were both born in Holland and my dad used to always have tulips in all his gardens so it is natural that they are a favourite flower of mine.  Karen Walker of Laugh Yourself Into Stitches is having a Tulip Pattern Give Away!

 I had hoped to make my version of this pattern to show you my colour choices but I was away at retreat in Spokane and midway thru Day 2 we had to move our things around in the space that was rented and I packed my sewing machine away and never got it out.  So I'll share you the lovely pictures of the quilt that Karen has made.  Once I get everything unpacked. I only got home a few hours ago after an almost 12 hour drive/shopping spree I'l pull some fabrics and put a piece together.

 I love how she has here tulips this way and that I often photograph tulips on my walks along the quay in the spring they they love to find their own way in the world.

 Look she even made a pillow.

Karen Green made this cute mug rug for her version.  I got some fun fabrics on my trip, I think I'm going to pull from those purchases to make something up.

Gwennie Inspired Medallion Quilt

I love tulips and have always wanted to make a basket quilt so when I saw a post on Lori's Humble Quilts I decided to draft an idea.  Here is her post about the project.

 I then enlarged it and darkened the faint pencil lines.

 I made some applique templates and chose my fabrics and them interviewed two backgrounds.

 Both have lovely script on them.  I decided to use the wrong side of the basket fabric to show the inside of it.

 Then I laid out my pieces to approximate the finished block size of 16" to see how long to make the bias stems.

Then I tucked a possible fabric for the handle.

 I decided to use the darker background and started stitching.

 Friday evening I had finished the block.  I realize I didn't make the lone dropped petal.  I'm still thinking of adding it or may add several more.  I can't wait to see what is suggested for the next border.
