A gift for Sue and some floral inspiration

You remember I made a bookmark for my Creative Stitching book.

Here is a closer look at the prototype I made for myself. When Sue saw it she said she was going to "steal" my idea and I said I was glad to share it with her and could I make one for her?

This is my interpretation of her bird logo embellished with some of her creative stitches and some beading.

On the backside is my logo I use when signing my creative pieces.

I partially attached some ribbon before sending it to her so she can attach it to her book. Below is Uschi Grenier's piece from Wool Penny Rugs, she and her partner Kerry brought Sue up for our workshop and we have a Woolies group that meets at the Creative Edge Quilt Shop in North Vancouver.

Uschi took Sue's workshop in Bellevue Washington and leads our group.

She has done some lovely stitching on her leaves.

Here is another piece from the class.

This leaf was under construction during the workshop, she did a lovely job.

Another lovely stitched leaf.

Some inspiration an anemone from Rita's garden for inspiration.

A bit farther back a white poppy.

A pink/purple iris wet from a watering.

A lady bug hiding out on a rose bud.

A mini dandelion just about ready to spread its seed.

Last Sunday in October

It is hard to believe that is is the last Sunday in October already, we had some rain yesterday and last night but the sun came out this morning.
I stopped and took a look at Rita's garden and found this lovely pink Dahlia in bloom.
Her ornamental lanterns are looking lovely.
The yellow witch hazel tree has some lovely lemon yellow leaves.
Some lovely Autumn reds and yellows.
The Oak leaf hydrangea has a lot of different colours of red.
Here some of the leaves are turning from green to maroon.
A late ladybug looking for some brunch.
This couple was enjoying their walk amongst the turning leaves.
I saw a lot of ladybugs today amongst the roses.
Some lovely raindrops on this rose.
More raindrops making a pretty design.
Another ladybug peeking out from a petal.
Pink coleus taking a bit of a late growth spurt.
 Yet another ladybug.
 And another..
...more ladybugs enjoying the morning sun.
A spider and web, I find them difficult to photograph.
A ladybug a fly and just peeking between the petals an ant...must be a good brunch.
 Still hanging on.
Rose hips starting to plump and become red.
 Some more rose hips.
 Lovely oranges and yellows.
A closer peek at the colours.
One of the cherry trees at the entrance of my condo.
 All dressed for Halloween.
View from my deck towards the reflecting pond, this tree will change over the coming days.
The view across the river, some trees have more colour than others.
Enjoy your season.

Quilts, Flowers and Bugs

Summer has finally arrived after a very wet Spring here on the west coast.  The colours are just exploding everywhere you look.  This daisy almost looks hand painted.
The sprinklers had just turned off and some of the blossoms still held droplets of water sparkling in the sun.
The contrast of the light mauve against the darker pink/red and green just gives light to the picture.
It is hard to see, but there is a lady bug on the 12 o'clock petal.  It is close to the centre of the sunflower.
What lovely shades of green, the droplets on the far leaf looks like someone dropped them there for effect.
 A yellow/red lady buy enjoying a meal.
A more traditional red lady bug a bit farther down the walk.
A quilt challenge!  The Needle and I in Burnaby set out a challenge; there were two brown fabrics that were to be used and your quilt had to have 200 2.5" squares in it.  Here are the results.
She sold 28 packages and got 23 back.  A friend ran out of time so there were almost 24!
The sizes and ideas were great.
I love how this one has folded squares and then curves to change things up,  The brown swirly fabric was one of the challenge fabrics.
 More quilts.
 The lower level.
 Even more.
 Lots of shades of brown.
I like the sailing ship with the squares on point.  I love how she gave the impression of a sunset.
I like the asymmetry of this piece.  The centre "panel" is a paper napkin that has been treated with a medium to make it more like fabric!  I also love the applique she put on the piece.
If you are in the Vancouver area, drop by and cast a vote for your favourite 3 pieces!  Good luck to all!
