Going to Sister Oregon Outdoor Quilt Show!

I got an e-mail invite from Mel McFarland to say that she and Mary Lou Weidman have been invited to have another Cow Parade at Sister's Outdoor Show again this year and would like to include my quilt!
Of course I've said yes and I also hope not only to attend but to volunteer at the display.  Stay tuned for further information.

Thanks Victoria and Candy!

March 17 I went to Victoria Gertenbach's blog  The Silly BooDilly on a blog tour for Candy Glendening's new DVD release Free Motion Machine Sketching and entered my name to win. April 1st I found out I was a lucky winner of the DVD and lovely pansy piece pictured below.

Yesterday if arrived in the mail, when I sent Candy an e-mail to tell her it arrived safely she responded immediately, I thought she was inside my computer it was so fast.

Now to dig into this lovely prize and try out some of her designs. If you want to check out either Victoria or Candy's blogs I have a link below on the right.

Candy's website has a blog, store gallery and more to explore at Candied Fabrics. Enjoy and thanks to both these lovely ladies.

Easter Greetings and some quilts to share

Several years ago I did some swaps with four friends.  Our first one was an Autumn theme and then we did Spring.  Each person made an identical row for the other participants.
Debbie made our whimsical bunny girls and Shona made the the crazy quilted eggs.
Tricia made our lovely applique tulip pots.
Ethel made us a collection of whimsical bird houses and a bird watching over.  I made the crocuses with a chick emerging from an egg in the grass.
I made this 5 Seasons quilt in honour of the name we called the group.  The 5 Seasons are Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and the Holidays.
I found some cute calendar fabric and then chose some fabrics to represent some of the holidays through the year.
Another quilts was designed by Karen Berry, A Quilters' Year was done September through June.  We don't meet in the summer.  I added a few filler blocks to make it come together.  Each block has some embellishments or 3-D features.
Love my choices for the the Robin block.
The Easter block has 3-D ears on the bunny.
Here's hopping the Easter Bunny came to visit and left some treats to enjoy for your family and friends.

April Showers brings creativity.

My wool group has changed from Monday to Wednesday, I put all my appliqué and pieced blocks up for a photo. You can see that April is under construction but I have all the pieced spools done. I'm not going to trim down the appliqué blocks until everything is done. While at Woolies I got the scallop pink and blue zigzag stitched onto the egg and started the little gold flowers on the pink scallop. Then add a few tufts of grass and April is done.

Judy Crowston stitched this beautiful Piece o'Cake top. Uschi Greiner put together the mix of wools and cottons together for this extended block of the month. Judy modified the final border by adding flowers and leaves. It will be on display in Uschi's booth at several upcoming quilt shows. I'll take some closer pictures when I get a chance. Lovely job Judy!

Today I drove down to Granville Island to pickup my latest Mika block.

As you can see it is a rainy April day and many of the pigeons and seagulls weren't too interested in flying around. Love the aqua bus these were busy shuttling people from downtown onto Granville Island, that rainbow canopy keeps you dry on a wet day.

Thinking of taking a nap?

A bit of personal grooming is always good to do.

Inside the vendors were getting ready for the day organizing their displays.

What a lovely contrast of colour the lemon yellow against the tomato red.

Check out those HUGE mushrooms.

Need some sweet peppers?

Lovely heirloom tomotoes.

Even more around the corner.

Need some flowers?

Got a sweet tooth?

Even more around the corner and farther down...I managed to resist.

All types of cheeses.

Some knobby looking oranges.

Lychee nuts and other Asian treats.

Rainbow coloured carrots.

Look at those monster carrots!

Had to get some bagels fresh from the oven, poppy seed for me and some for my friend along with some sesame seed ones for her also. They were busy trying to load the displays for customers coming.

More flowers.

Great Spring colours.

Fresh breads.

Love the rubber boots.

Someone keeping a close eye on me.

The pinwheel block with the flower centres is the one I picked up today. Time to prep the appliqué and piece the base block...owner what I'm doing for Easter?

Stay tuned, have a lovely weekend.

Peche Cherry Blossoms in Vancouver.

There is an iconic street in Vancouver that at this time of year speaks to Spring. On Sunday I took my mom for a drive to enjoy these lovely trees.

They have been trimmed in the Peche or Peach manner to make easier picking and this causes the trees to meet in the middle of the street.

Sunday was a bit overcast but bits of blue were in evidence. Today when I was visiting my friend Ethel who lives nearby the petals were starting to fall like snowflakes and cover the parked cars.

A street away you can see some lovely star magnolia trees in full bloom.

Another nearby street. Vancouver in the Spring has hundreds of these along with pink magnolia, flowering crab apple and soon dogwood trees to enjoy.

Today I got a copy of Quiltmania their 100 issue.

Look what I found, a lovely little piece on my dear friend and mentor Mary Lou Weidman. If you've never visited her site before, click on the link I have on the right side and it will take you there.

Congratulations Mary Lou! Continued thoughts and prayers to you wonderful Husband Mark.
