Wool Crazy new project, a thank you and floral inspirations.

Somehow these images flipped and one of the duplicated, after laying down my wools and basting I've started doing some crazy stitching.

I'm hoping to update this every few days to help see the process of making this project.  First I laid down various wools on a piece of osnaburg and then basted them down. 

  

This is a thank you from a patient and her husband.  I was very surprised by this lovely gesture.

The succulents are in bloom, don't you like the lovely colours of this one?

When I first stopped to look at this bloom I thought the blue petals were from another flower that had blown into the spiky petals. 

The yellow edge to these red flowers are very eye catching.

Red and green are complimentary on the colour wheel, and they are shown well on opposite sides of this plant's leaves.

The sprinklers shut off just before I came for my walk, and some of the water droplets made the flowers sparkle.

Even though this leaf is starting to dry, the texture of it along with the water droplets is very pleasing.

This plant makes me want to have a mocha and coffee with a bit of whipped cream.

This is one of my favourite succulents, it comes in a darker red/maroon colour.

More progress on our Wool Crazy round robin. Sandi's Fall themed piece has some new friends done by Debbie. Here is a closer picture of the piece. There is a black cat stitched with violet pink thread sitting on top of the pumpkin. The Scarecrow Lady is rather elegant don't you think?

You can see a cat hitched a ride along and there is a ghost coming out of the pumpkins to play.

Debbie added an apple tree to Ethel's Mr. McGarrity's Garden.

Did you spot the nest of birds in the tree along with the rabbit hiding in the grass?

Debbie added a butterfly along with flowers on mine.

I love the mouse peeking out of the bottom leaves of the left flower and the caterpillar button she added.

More Wool Crazy updates and a weather update; after 51 days without rain it rained today! July 2010 was the third driest month since we've been keeping records in Vancouver. I thought this was a bleeding heart fuchsia, but my friend Rita tells me that it is a Japanese flowering maple!

I often see some bugs amongst the flowers as I walk along the quay. This one is a bit hard to see on the dusty miller.

I've seen a lot of these "yellow" ladybugs this year, but be careful they bite!

On Thursday I went to my friend Elke's for a sit and stitch and found this wonderful flower. The leaves look like a hibiscus, I don't know what is called, but I like the pink and red mix of petals.

I didn't dare walk amongst the flowers, but they look very pretty, here is hoping they self-seed for next year.

Here is our second round of the Wool Crazy pin cushions. Ethel and I swapped our first go around. I added some corn and another rabbit to her piece. I added some green onions to the "dirt."

Ethel took my piece and designed this lovely daffodil, tulip, butterfly and embroidered flowers to it.

Debbie's piece came to me when I handed Ethel's off to her. One of the flaws of our round robin was we couldn't get everyone together initially so we handed pieces off as they were finished. I added a creepy skeleton tree along with a black cat sitting on a crescent moon pumpkin.

When all four of us got together I ended up getting Sandi's Fall themed piece. Her birthday is early October and it often falls on Canadian Thanksgiving, hence the turkey. She loves thistles and this was my interpretation of one along with an echinacea flower.

I should have some more pictures soon as several of us have already done round three and working on round four before they come to stay.

Wool Crazy is a great book by JoAnn Mullaly. There is an online group called Wool Crazy Sew Along that I have been following lately. A group of 4 members decided to do a smaller wool crazy pin cushion round robin. I approached 3 friends and got them to come and play with me in this venture. I hope to share these pictures on their blog and get a button to link their site to mine. Ethel Snow's theme is Mr. McGarrity's garden, her bunny is just adorable. I can hardly wait to see what other things we find in her garden.

My theme is Flowers and Bugs. Often when I photograph flowers I find a lot of bees and ladybugs paying them visits. This also feels like a Summer theme to me.

Our friend Debbie Matthews loves Halloween, she has sent on some buttons and floss along with her piece for us to play while creating her piece.

Sandi Hill is our fourth member and she loves all things fall. She has a lovely oak leaf and acorn needle case that will co-ordinate nicely with this piece.

Happy Canada Day Fireworks to help celebrate July 4th! These are just a few of the one I watched from my deck on July 1st. This one is amazing with the star shape in front of the larger burst.

The smoke trails lit up by the exploding firework make some interesting designs.

This one is just pretty.

Happy Canada Day! This sweet pea almost looks like our Canadian flag of red and white, once again I was taking photos in my friend Rita's garden. Here is another blue sweet pea with raindrops adoring it.

Is this peony poppy not just gorgeous?

Here is a red one breaking through the bud.

The seed pod looks very velvety to touch.

These pods are a bit more mature, I'm hoping to get some of the seed from Rita.
