Houston International Quilt Festival, inspirations from around the world.

Winter by Laurie Weiner is a great study of neutrals.  I like how she used a touch of brown for the pine cones and tree.

Eureka by Marilyn Badger.  I saw the quilt that was her inspiration Circle of Life by Jacqueline de Jonge for sale as a kit in the vendors market.  Jacqueline's version was done with jewel tone rainbow colours with black and white celestial backgrounds.  Both are stunning.

Up close of some of her embellishments.
Forever in My Heart by Lahala Phelps, made in memory of her mother won the $5,000 Robert S. Cohan award for traditional Artistry.
Her hand applique and hand quilting were lovely.
Four Seasons for Kirara by Ayako Kawakayami is an original design commemorating her daughter's growing.

 Winter.
 Spring.
 Autumn.
 Summer.
Bless My Sweet Home by Tomoko Endo.

She was making this quilt when the earthquake of March 11, 2011 happened.
Random Rose Garden by Karen Echmeirer from an original pattern and book.

Jane Sassaman won the Baby Lock Master Award for Innovative Artistry for $5,000.
What a great group of bugs!
I attended a lecture by Judy Coates Perez called It's All In The Process, making an award winning quilt and all that can go wrong along the way.
Judy just prior to her discussion of making Primordial Sea and other art quilts.
Pam Holland shared a wonderful talk on Inspired to Stitch.
Afterwards we got to enjoy samples of her artistry.
Last year I saw this wonderful piece at another lecture.
 Fun colours and designs.
 Whimsical designs.
Sun after a day of rain.
Beautiful sunset at the end of the day.
