Mary Lou Weidman Hoochy Mama Basket Exchange

I just finished making the last of my 16 baskets for the latest Mary Lou on line swap.

 It is hard to see but I did my handles out of 8 different fabric strips sewn together and then cut on the bias and hand stitched them done. 

 I varied the order of the fabrics for a couple different colour runs but they reflect the colours used in the basket bottom.

 I also didn't match my bottoms, what came, came, some sit squarely some didn't.

 When I went to my guild meeting last week a member came over and asked why my handle wasn't centred, I answered because they are going to be wonky, i.e., hoochy baskets.  She gave a soft sigh, she isn't a Mary Lou style of person.

This picture shows all the fabrics that came in our Tonga Treats Sugar set from Timeless Treasures.  We also used Delft Sketch from Timeless Treasures.  I can't wait to send these off to Mari and see what comes home.  I've got a few ideas about designs, but until I get them all together I won't know if it works.  Stay tuned.

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons for all the lovely colours that come out for display.  The flowers on this tree always intrigue me, the star flower is a magenta colour and the centre a turquoise navy.  The flower is rather fleshy rather than a typical petal.  The first on died and I'm happy they replaced it, I don't know the name of this plant.

 Mushrooms.

 Beautiful yellow leaves against a blue sky with a hint of green remaining.

 Love the colours this oak leaf hydrangea becomes.

 Rich reds.

 Dahlia again in the magenta pink and lemon yellow I love.

 Fall blooming rhododendron, a lovely mauve colour.

 My friend and I had custom trollbeads made for us.  Mine is the green/turquoise and hers is the turquoise mauve one.

 More lovely reds with a hint of orange.

Autumn has arrived on the west coast of Canada.

September 25th I took a picture of this Datura seed head forming in my friend Rita's garden.

 Her Autumn crocuses are in bloom.

 Love the pink/mauve colour of these crocuses.

 This succulent flower is doing well despite the grey windy day on the 30th of September.

 The river was choppy and a few white caps could be seen.

 Touches of red creeping into the leaf palate.

 This sunflower is rocking in the wind.

 Pigeons are choosing to walk not fly in the wind.

 This tug is pull a huge load of wood chips to one of the paper mills along the river.

 Rose hips starting to form and change colour.

 Marigolds showing their lovely shades of gold and orange.

 I like the buds on this bush.

 This rhododendron likes to do an Autumn and Spring bloom.
